My latest featured article for RateBeer’s The Hop Press… posted on Saturday, May 22th.
My wife and I have been in Myrtle Beach for the last week. The place we have rented is very nice, right on the beach and the weather has mostly been perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. Its a much needed rest for the both of us after a very hectic fall, winter and spring. Being the beer lover that I am, one of my favorite things to do while traveling on vacation is to sample some of the regional beer offerings.
My wife (Candy) and I recently took some time to return to one of our favorite regions… the Greater Portland Maine and Portsmouth NH areas. The weather was not that great, so we “had” to spend some time in some of my favorite watering holes… not that I’m complaining, mind you. On the list were the Great Lost Bear and Three Dollar Dewey’s in Portland as well as the Portsmouth Brewery in Portsmouth. All off these establishments offer many taps (GLB has 65), plenty of local beers (Portsmouth is all their own, of course) and offer “sample paddles”, to reduce the collateral damage of trying so many new brews… I have fortunately married a “designated” driver, thank goodness . They all three also have great food to go along with the beer! Below are pictures and links to their sites…
I stopped by here a few weeks ago to check it out… in downtown Richmond, Vermont. My son had passed along a tip that they had a decent beer selection… very true! The owners were extremely nice and knowledgeable about the beer that they carried… pointed out the new arrivals and expressed an interest in my beer “collection” on RateBeer. Not a big store mind you, but they do carry a wide variety of beers; some of which I had not seen in Vermont yet. I bought a few to add to the collection and I’ll definitely be back…. 🙂
The Beverage Warehouse in Winooski is, without question, Vermont’s best place to “browse for beer”… I swear that I cannot leave that place without dropping $100 (or more!) for beer. They have more than 450 beers (“The most in Vermont”) and with the change in the state beer laws last summer, they are really starting to stock some truely fine beers. They also offer a “Free Pint Glass Friday” event most weeks… on 2/20 they will be hosting Vermont’s own Magic Hat Brewery and on 2/27 they will be hosting two great breweries… Brooklyn and Stone. Stone Brewery is one of my very favorite brew makers.
